Project Description:

Emory Road (S.R. 131) was an existing two lane state highway through a rapidly developing suburban area. The roadway possessed significant geometric and operational deficiencies throughout the 3.54 mile project length. In order to accommodate future traffic volumes and correct the geometric and operational deficiencies, a five lane curb and gutter section with improved horizontal and vertical alignments is under construction. Improvements will also include an extensive underground drainage system, the replacement of five box bridges, and the installation of two traffic signals. One of the major design challenges presented by this project was the extensive number of residential and commercial properties abutting the roadway, with the associated driveway and access needs.
