Each member of the Cannon & Cannon family plays a vital role in the projects we undertake to improve our community. We invite you to meet our team and learn a little more about who and what are behind the scenes of our projects. Meet John, a member of Cannon & Cannon’s survey team who has been with us since 1997! We got together with John to learn more about the path that brought him to CCI. As a child, John wanted to be an architect. Down the road, as he started preparing for college, he realized that a college architecture path was not the best option for him, so he chose a different career path instead. Lucky for us, we get to appreciate John’s talent and expertise in important projects that help improve our community!

When did you first know you wanted to work in the land surveying field?
Once I started working at CCI, I realized how much I enjoyed the technical and artistic aspects of the career. I also enjoyed working with other people in the industry towards the completion of projects and then seeing how those projects transformed raw land into new usable spaces.
Was there something specific that inspired you to pursue land surveying as a career?
I really had no idea what land surveying was about until I began working at CCI. At the time I was working at UPS when they went on strike. With a wife and young son to look out for, I decided that I needed a job that was more stable.
Would you recommend land surveying to a young person as a potential career choice? Why?
Yes. If someone wants to work in a technical field that is always growing, that still lets you stay connected with the outdoors, then surveying would be a great choice. Also, the drawing aspect of the field allows me to use my artistic training to create drawings that not only contain the technical information that is required but that are pleasing to the eye while being visually balanced.
When did you first begin working at Cannon & Cannon?
